PARENT PARTNERS

Welcome to PARENT PARTNERS. This is a new function created for the DuPage Figure Skating Club. The goals are to:

PARTNER with the DuPage Club and serve as a common voice for parent needs and expectations for all Club activities;

PARTNER with coaches, skating directors, judges, and other members of the skating community and serve as a sounding board for related activities;

PARTNER with all skaters to insure their skating life is filled with the best memories that can be leveraged for whatever career choices they make in the future.

To get started, we first surveyed all Club members and asked them to rate and rank a number of ideas (like a Lecture series, training guidelines, to name a few). THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT RESPONSE, MEMBERS!!! From this input, we will develop a list of priorities for 2001, 2002, etc. We will communicate our efforts through this Web page and the DuPage newsletter. So, look here for an update.

A few quick answers that we know we’ll have for sure…high interest in a Clothing Resale…we thought after Regionals would be a good time for that so stay tuned for the details…it will probably be limited to competition costumes/testing outfits/dress sweaters, etc.

Many members also liked the idea of a letter that explains absenteeism for qualifying competitions. You’ll find on this page, a letter regarding the upcoming Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships from Ms. Jan Serafine, our Club president. You can print this letter and give it to your principal.

We also plan to share any news, tips, personal stories etc. that come our way. Any info you might have, that you think would benefit other skating parents, please pass them along. Best method is through e-mail DuPageFSC@hotmail.com which we assume you have access to if you are reading this now!

CURRENT PARENT PARTNERS UPDATES:

The DuPage Figure Skating Club is compiling a registry of volunteers.  In order to keep our club functioning in the superior manner we are all accustom we request that each parent volunteer a minimum of three hours per year.  This registry will be utilized to assist with numerous DFSC responsibilities.  This registry will enable us to access and utilize the various expertise and talents of our club's parents.  With 900 members, DFSC has much to offer.  Your help is very much appreciated and needed.  Working together makes our club more efficient.  Only provide information you desire.

PAST PARENT PARTNERS UPDATES:
Great book for skating parents:

How to raise a competitive figure skater”…  written by a local judge/former coach, Doris Bodmer (better known as ‘Mrs. B’).  This book is filled with practical advice like how to prepare for competitions, what’s the difference between ISI and USFSA, when to sharpen your skates, etc.  For those of you who are relatively new to the sport it is a ‘must read’.  Even those of us who have been around for a while will gain some insights.  If you’d like a copy, please send a check for $17 (covers postage and handling) to Doris Bodmer, 239 55th Place, Downers Grove, IL  60516 and she’ll send you a copy in the mail.
