The Eileen and Joseph Serafine Academic Scholarship
DuPage Figure Skating Club


The DuPage Figure Skating Club offers a $1,000 scholarship to club athletes of USFS Junior and Senior singles and pairs level to further their collegiate studies, and wish a career outside the figure skating profession. Awards are based on those individuals with strong leadership abilities, manifest ideals, academic performance, positive attitude, and positive conduct. Recipient must be a full time student at a University/College (or enrolled and entering their first year at college) and agree to trial judge for the DuPage FSC a minimum of 12 hours in the year. Participating as a trial judge at the DuPage Open may be accepted if recipient has judging status. If no successful candidate is found in a particular year, the funds will be retained and reinvested. DuPage athletes wishing to apply must submit applications by December 1st of the current year. Applicants may re-apply yearly for a maximum of four years.

Application Procedure

  1. Submit a letter describing yourself, accomplishments, and your future vocational goals. Also include reasons as  to worthiness of grant and why you would like to pursue judging for the DuPage FSC. This letter, addressed to the Eileen and Joseph Serafine Scholarship Fund, provides the committee with the greatest basis on which to make their decision.
     
  1. Include a copy of your high school or college academic transcript with official seal.
     
  1. Include a letter of recommendation from one high school or college teacher.
     
  1. Complete the questionnaire, signed by your parent, yourself and a DuPage Officer.
     
  1. All applications must be submitted by December 1st of the current year.
     

Criteria

  • Applicant must be a current registered member in good standing of the DuPage FSC for the previous four years.
     

  • Only USFS Junior and Senior singles and pairs qualifying competitors may apply.
     

  • Applicant must have passed their Junior and or Senior test at a DuPage FSC test session.
     

  • Applicant must enroll in a four-year college / university or graduate school.
     

  • Applicant must have a 2.75 or higher grade point average to apply.
     

  • Award recipients must submit tuition receipts or proof of registration prior to award disbursement.
