The 2002 U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships will be held in
Bensenville, Ill., December 12-15, 2001.
The U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships will feature more than 350 of
the top intermediate and juvenile-level athletes from across the nation
competing for a total of eight U.S. titles.
The U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships, formerly known as the U.S.
Junior Olympic Figure Skating Championships, has been conducted annually
since 1991. Many current stars on the senior-level achieved success in the
U.S. Junior Championships prior to reaching the elite level.
Past champions include 1999 U.S. ladies silver medalist Naomi Nari Nam
(1995 Juvenile Girls); 1999 U.S. pairs champions Danielle & Steve Hartsell
(1991 Intermediate Pairs) and 1997 U.S. Junior pairs champions Tiffany
Stiegler & Johnnie Stiegler (1993 Intermediate Pairs).
Athletes qualified for the U.S. Junior Championships by placing among the
top-four in one of nine USFSA regional championships, conducted in October
2001.
Hosted by the DuPage
Figure Skating Club, the 2002 U.S. Junior Championships will be held
in the at the Edge Ice Arena with competition getting underway on Wed.,
Dec. 12.
